Debra R. Barry has been writing books since 2010. She is a native Iowan and has been an educator for 29 years. She lives in Marion with her family and dog: Irish, a chocolate lab. When she’s not writing, teaching, or folding laundry, you can find her sipping peppermint mochas, watching baseball, and shoe shopping.
She has spent the last 29 years educating youth. Debra began her career as a kindergarten teacher. Since then she has taught first grade, third grade, fourth grade, Title Math, and 7th and 8th grade Social Studies. Debra has also served as a Teacher Leader Program Coordinator and an Instructional Coach. Debra is an agency Training Associate for Cognitive Coaching SM and an Individual Practioner for the Institute for the Habits of Mind.
Debra R. Barry leads writing workshops and author presentations for students kindergarten through eighth grade. Debra's presentations focus on generating ideas, character development, and the writing process. Debra explains the joys and challenges of writing and publishing all while inspiring others to reach for the stars.
Debra also speaks to groups of teachers about leadership, coaching, and educational advocacy.
